Mission

Providing Ample Opportunities

Florida’s Suncoast is renowned for its unparalleled commitment to the visual and performing arts. Residents and visitors are consistently exposed to an impressive array of art exhibitions, theatrical productions, film festivals, and music concerts. While we are all justifiably proud of the local commitment to the arts, it is essential to ensure that works produced by artists belonging to underrepresented groups are appropriately represented throughout our artistic landscape.  The entire community benefits tremendously when ample opportunities exist to expand knowledge and appreciation of the innovative ways in which different cultures have used the arts to describe and interpret the lived experience.

A Transformed Landscape – moving toward the future

A transformed creative landscape where artists of African descent and BIPOC populations are celebrated, supported, and empowered to contribute to the cultural fabric of cities and regions.  In partnership and collaboration with four enthused museum leaders at Tampa Museum of Art, The James Museum, Sarasota Art Museum, and The Perez Museum of Art, along with the Arts & Cultural Alliances in Sarasota and Pinellas counties launches and empowers SBAC’s first step for this Big Vision. The collaboration will have a positive impact on bringing the American art community to focus on the value of equity in art and the full inclusion of artists of African descent and BIPOC populations in the collective body of American art.  In Florida, ethnic populations are growing, and museums will want to represent and be inclusive in their exhibitions and programming.  SBAC is mindful that throughout history, art and artists have been foremost in fostering cultural, institutional, and community development.

Vision for the future

A Transformed Landscape – moving toward the future

  •   Cultural  Transformation: Increased representation of artists of African descent and BIPOC populations in creative thought, pop-up exhibitions, and professional development,      leading to a more diverse and inclusive creative environment.
  • Public  Awareness: Heightened awareness and appreciation of the contributions of artists of African descent and BIPOP populations, positively impacting the perception of their work within the communities and society at large.
  • Skills and  Confidence: Empowered artists equipped with enhanced professional skills and abilities and a broader understanding of the art-business intersection with an eye on economic prosperity.
  • Sustainable  Collaborations: Collaborations established with four museums in the Suncoast, fostering a lasting network for future opportunities for museums and galleries throughout the State of Florida.
  • Exhibition  Impact: A    successful 5-month exhibition traveling to 4 museums in 2027 that attracts diverse audiences, sparks dialogue, and promotes understanding and connection through art.

Strategy and Implementation to build 2024 to 2027

A Transformed Landscape – moving toward the future

Strategy and Implementation to build 2024 to 2027

  •   Workshops and Events: Conduct workshops, pop-up exhibitions, meetings, panels, reviews, and outreach events, aiming for multiple workshops and four events per year.
  • Marketing  and Outreach: Utilize a combination of social media, collaborations with community organizations, partnerships with local media, and targeted advertising to reach artists, and conduct listening tours in cities and county communities to reach a broad public. Collaborate on all aspects of      marketing and outreach with collaborators in the initiative.

True to our mission:

TO NURTURE CREATIVITY AND AUTHENTIC EXPRESSION, UNIFYING AND PROMOTING THE POWER OF THE ARTS ACROSS THE REGIONAL AND CULTURAL LANDSCAPE.
