Manasota ASALH Inc., Black MUSE 2020 – February 2020 – Exhibition sponsorship with Art Center Sarasota and Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative.
The Association for the Study of African American Life and History's (ASALH) signature annual event featuring twelve African American artists in a juried exhibition. Over 300 guests attended the opening reception honoring the artists who participated in a discussion about their art, beliefs, and culture. Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative worked with four local high schools for four of the artists to visit students and discuss their work and creative careers.
Sponsorship - Exhibition SUN & LIGHT – Artist, Charles Williams
February 2019 - Polk Museum, Lakeland, Florida
Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative was honored to sponsor the Charles Williams exhibition as our first major sponsorship. Charles Williams is an up and coming contemporary artist who uses his personal encounters, past and present, with the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s. In the exhibit Williams attempts to strike a balance between both the peaceful and violent protests of the movement and of varied expressions of power. It was our pleasure to sponsor Williams and discuss with him the importance of “staying in the light and staying positive”.
Horace Imhotep – October 2019 – Exhibition sponsorship with Art Center Sarasota, Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative, and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, (ASALH). We joined to host a private artist reception in honor of the Atlanta based artist.
The 200 guests enjoyed an interview and discussion with the Imhotep. Imhotep in the school of post-black arts movement, make a commentary on racial matters and the black experience juxtapose with the mythology of race.
Nigel Freeman is the director of African American Fine Art at Swann Auction Galleries. Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative was pleased to invite Freeman to visit Sarasota and speak to a group of art patrons and collectors about the importance of collecting and the new recognition and value of African American Art in museums today.
Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative hosted a reception for 40 attendees.
Bill T. Jones, distinguished Choreographer, Dancer, Theatre Director and Writer. Jones was invited to Sarasota as the keynote speaker for the Annual MUSE Luncheon hosted by the Hermitage Artist Retreat.
Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative partnered with the Hermitage to host a reception in Bill T. Jones’ honor for patrons of the arts.
Founder and Editor of Culture Type (culturetype.com) a very innovative and important website supporting the works of African American artists.
Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative was honored to host Valentine to Sarasota and to have her enlighten and enrich art patrons and collectors on the vast work of art by people of African descent. She drew connections between artistic vision and pivotal cultural moments.
